Both partners welcomed the launch of the International Associated Laboratory (LIA) "Genetic IMprovement of Indian Cattle and Buffaloes - GIMIC", established between the Joint Research Unit for Animal Genetics and Integrative Biology (GABI, part of the Animal Health Division) of INRA Jouy-en-Josas and BAIF in India. The LIA GIMIC develops fundamental and applied research activities by setting up sustainable breeding programmes for local cattle breeds which are not very productive but adapted to the tropical climatic conditions in low input production systems with small herds. The LIA involves exchanges of researchers, students and doctoral students, training sessions and scientific discussions. Girish Sohani and Philippe Mauguin discussed the documents for setting up this lnternational Associated Laboratory, in the presence of Vincent Ducrocq, the INRA coordinator of the LIA.

During the meeting, there were also discussions on the construction of the Living Lab project in India led by BAIF and INRA on Agriculture – Food – Water – Energy – Health.
